The memorial is to celebrate the Man, the Movement, and the Message that has shaped American society and affected many individuals around the world. Therefore, the structure is designed to take its visitors through an emotional journey suitable for the occasion.
Visitors pass through portals with the images of Martin Luther King Jr.’s career proudly embossed on a glowing stone. Then, at the heart of the memorial, they walk across a pathway that hovers over still water.
